Scotland launches program to attract private investment in nature restoration

The Scottish Government has announced the launch of a new program aimed at attracting private investment in regeneration projects. The program, called NatureScot, will provide grants and other forms of support to businesses and organizations working on projects to restore forests, bogs, rivers and other natural ecosystems.

Attract £100m of private investment in nature restoration over the next five years.

Support 1,000 nature restoration projects across Scotland.

Create 10,000 jobs in the green sector.

Projects that can receive funding

Reforestation projects, such as planting new trees and improving the condition of existing forests.

Wetland restoration projects such as rewetting of drained wetlands and restoration of degraded wetlands.

River restoration projects such as dam removal and restoration of natural riverbeds.

Coastal ecosystem restoration projects such as salt marsh creation and oyster reef restoration.

Opinions of environmentalists

Conservationists welcomed the launch of the NatureScot program.

  WWF Scotland said the program was a "vital step" in restoring Scotland's nature.

RSPB Scotland said the program "has the potential to be a turning point for Scotland's biodiversity".

The Scottish Wildlife Trust said the program was a "fantastic opportunity" for the people and nature of Scotland.
